Organicoco Shop

In Graphic Design 2 we were assigned to get into a group of photographers and graphic designers to create an imaginary invite to an event that would take place at a made up place, time and date.

Our group started to brainstorm what we like doing such as hobbies we all like to take part in, maybe painting, riding, sport, watching tv, going to parties, going on holiday and watching films. As we progressed we all agreed that eating was definitely one of the most important things of our daily routine. It was something we all got excited about and discussed that we like to plan, take part in, cook and eat food! It was something we could not live without and everyone had this in common.

When we knew this was the subject we were going to look into more we liked the concept of a new shop, maybe a new restaurant or a special organic shop.

Then with a group member shouting out, 'I love Yotam Ottolenghi'

Yotam Ottolenghi is a restaurant in Islington, London. It has a sophisticated look, a professional vintage looking smart building exterior and interior. The website is very easy to use, simple and easy to search whatever you need to know about Yotam Ottolenghi. They also have other shops in Notting Hill, Belgravia and Kensington.

(2010). Philosophy. "It is familiar because it is personal. It is made and served by a group of people who love preparing food as well as indulging in it, gorging on it, chatting about it endlessly. It is a way of life, somewhere between a healthy obsession and a bad habit we can’t kick."

Then we were able to link this to the next big idea, because of the way the shop is portrayed and we wanted our shop to produce a similar feel and product.

A chocolate shop was our main concept, we thought about what kind of chocolate shop it would be, this would have to fit into where the shop was going to be in London, which we had decided Islington would be a good place next to the Yotti Ottolenghi Restaurant.
We liked the idea of being green, this is very fresh and upcoming and people like to try something that is not so close to their comfort zones.

Harris, J (novel), Jacobs, R L (screenplay). (2001). We thought of the film Chocolat, a romance film, is about a young mother who moved to a French village with her young daughter. She opens La Chocolaterie Maya, a small chocolate shop. Her chocolate has such an effect that it changes everyone in different ways in the village.

At 1 minute 10 seconds, there is a special chocolate box that is so aesthetic, wanting to be opened, this was just the perfect idea for an invite to an event.

Names

Organic Chocolate
Coco
Chocolate
Cocobean
Chocolate Bean
Truffle
Chocolat Delux
Chocolat Chaud

BUT

We all agreed on: Organicoco

This title for the shop was simple yet affective, one long word which is easier to remember for people so the marketing was a bonus for the name.

Colour

As we had made the title Organicoco we thought of doing a organic looking textured box, this was either going to be greens or browns.

Ending up with browns, this created a very unique box that when we passed around the lecture room everyone loved the style and idea we had chosen.

Typeface

Wanghonghx. (2011). We chose Trajan Pro, this is a "old, style serif designed in 1989 by Carol Twombly who worked for adobe systems. The design is based on the letterforms of roman square capitals." Trajan was designed as an all capitals typeface, which is why we thought it was different to most of the others. The capital letters and bold type gives Organicoco an appealing look as it gives more strength against the paper we chose. We chose Trajan pro to represent our shops name because it is classy, structured and balanced giving a modern look to our chocolate shop.

The personal invite had to include:

Address
Name of event
Time and Place
An aesthetically pleasing invitation which therefore would interest people to go.
